CppPilot

AI for C++ developers, inside Visual Studio

CppPilot fixes MSVC build errors, reviews your Git changes before you commit, explains native crashes, and checks your project settings, without leaving Visual Studio.

What CppPilot does

Fix build errors

Open any compiler, linker, or MSBuild error from the Error List or the Build output. Fix one diagnostic at a time or all of them; CppPilot rebuilds the project and follows each error until it is resolved.

Review before you commit

Start a review from the Git Changes window. Findings come with clickable file and line references, a priority, and an optional focused correction. Review the current file, its changes, or a whole branch.

Understand native crashes

When the debugger breaks on an exception or an assertion, CppPilot reads the call stack, arguments, and locals and explains the likely root cause. It also analyzes crash dumps with their symbols.

Check your build settings

Right-click a solution or a project to find inconsistent, slow, or outdated settings, with the property sheet or line to change.

Explain and explore code

The AI reads code as it is in the editor, including unsaved changes, and opens the files it refers to at the right line. A persistent chat is available with your own Codex or Claude account.

You stay in control

Every command or file change the AI asks for appears as a Visual Studio notification: allow it once, for the operation, for the repository, or deny it. Every operation can be cancelled.

Two ways to use it

With your own AI account: free

CppPilot uses the OpenAI Codex CLI or the Claude Code CLI installed on your computer, with your own ChatGPT or Claude subscription. CppPilot itself is free and open source, has no telemetry, and sends nothing to its publisher.

With CppPilot Cloud: no AI account needed

Sign in with your email address and the AI is included. CppPilot downloads the official Codex CLI from OpenAI's releases, verifies it, and sends its requests through CppPilot Cloud. Start free; upgrade to Pro for regular use.

Plans and prices

How CppPilot Cloud works

  1. In Visual Studio, open Extensions > CppPilot > AI CLI Settings and choose Sign in under CppPilot Cloud, or choose Use CppPilot Cloud when CppPilot finds no AI command-line tool.
  2. Confirm the link sent to your email address. Each Visual Studio installation gets its own sign-in, which you can revoke from your account.
  3. Use CppPilot as usual. Your plan's monthly AI allowance and its use appear in CppPilot Home.

Questions

Which AI model answers?

OpenAI models, chosen by the plan: a fast economical model on the free plan, and a stronger model on Pro.

What happens to my code?

The code and context an action needs are sent to OpenAI through CppPilot Cloud to produce the answer. CppPilot Cloud does not store or log them; it records only your account and how much AI each request used. See the privacy policy.

Is the AI chat included?

Not in the free and Pro plans: they cover build fixes, reviews, crash analysis, and project checks. The chat remains available with your own Codex or Claude account.

What are the requirements?

Windows with Visual Studio 2022 or later (a package also exists for Visual Studio 2019) and the MSVC C++ build tools. Git for the review features.

CppPilot is an independent open-source project (source code, MIT License). It is not an official Microsoft, OpenAI, or Anthropic product.
